Wrestling is the oldest sport

 


You may be reading the title and thinking to yourself, 'I have tons of articles showing that running is the oldest sport to date' And well you are not entirely wrong. Running has drawings in caves that date well over 15,000 years and has a record in 1829 BCE in Ireland showing it being competitive as well (oldest.org,17). But thats only one competition other than the Olympics in 776 BCE where both wrestling and running competed against each other (oldest.org, 17),(rockstarwrestling.com, 2). It seems wrestling has been out and around for longer than running with paintings in Egypt dating far back to 3000 B.C.E, showing belt wrestling (Editors of encyclopedia Britannica, 5). Running seems to be second oldest sport with all the information there is to back up wrestling, from my few biast sources. It does not show running having many dates other than the Olympics event and as well as the Ireland one. 


But competition aside why has wrestling stayed so popular over 15,000 years, if you count cave drawings, or 5,000 years. What seems to be so intriguing to the audience about one form of wrestling, Greco-Roman, was since people believed it was done by the ancients (Editors of encyclopedia Britannica, 6). Another reason for its popularity could be since the greeks heard about Zeus fighting another God through wrestling (Dellinger & Emeritus, 3). But in general people before and now respected how wrestling required strength, alertness, resiliency, and most importantly agility and quickness in the sport, which kept them hooked, wanting to see who'd be the victor (Dellinger & Emeritus, 12). So skill, gods, and ancients all seem cool and all but without all the different forms and styles of wrestling to suit each persons taste, I do not think it would be popular to this day lf it did not have the variety that it does. Wrestling to this day is constantly changing as well with the rules and techniques for each style changing just slight to fit the modern era(rockstarwrestling.com, 19). 


To wrap this up wrestling is the oldest sport with the information I have but if I gave running more attention then I did I may be convinced otherwise but from what I read wrestling has more marks in history that are older than the Ireland one running has. On the entertainment side of things it seems like the sport will never stop being relevant with how malleable it is with what it can do.

Why I am interested in researching social media bias.

       Writing a research paper is something that can be hard at times with all the work that ends up coming with it but as long as one is interested in their topic one can end up finishing it quickly without a real struggle. For me social media is something that is interesting to me as well as computer software. Because of the topic I am searching up is about social media bias, if it is true or not, as well seeing if hate speech is more relevant on social media as well. They talk about using something called a BERT model that searches though all the words that are being posted to identify what kind of language is being used to identify who is the person behind the text and then it records how the algorithm is pushing out their posts because of the person behind it. Babies have existed for longer than humans have been around and have been thought to be the most adorable creature in the world. Why do people say that when they are unable to talk to us, whine all the time, and the biggest issue of them all is that they are built different from us, and us humans hate different. Now you may be thinking I have gone crazy saying that babies are not human and are built completely different from your standard human, but know it is all true.
