Social media is helpful?

Since the dawn of time people have always been bored and did not know how to spend all the time they had on their hand. Some kicked rocks around, others worked for the best of society. Then there are the people who stare at flowers for more time than they realistically should be. Now we have not just the people who stare at flowers but now we have people staring at flowers on their phones. It seems like it is not images of flowers they have taken as well, it seems as if it was images of flowers others posted on what is called social media. It is known to be the area where most people, well, teens end up wasting their time on. Because of this behavior people have started calling some teenagers zombies since they are not acting without any thoughts and just following the motions(medium.com).

Schools have noticed how often teenagers are staring at their phones and are now capitalizing on it so students can learn better and actually pay attention. Statistics have shown that 96% of students use social media and teachers know it can be used to empower students to do their work (csic.georgetown.edu). More schools are now using social media to teach their students or use it as a platform for students to do their assignments on (csic.georgetown.edu). Social media like blackboard and moodle are currently being used as sites for teachers to communicate with students as well as post their assignments on their (csic.georgetown.edu). Studies have also shown that students tend to react positively to social media mixing with school (csic.georgetown.edu).

Social media may be a place where students have their distractions and now their schoolwork but it is also now being used by teens and young adults as a way to be informed of political news. It has been shown that social media is where most young adults tend to get their political news from (journalism.org). Statistics have also shown that 18% of adults use social media as their primary news source and          most of them do not trust the news shown on there and claim it is false (journalism.org). There has been statistics showing that 24% of people do not trust the platform that they end up following (medium.com).

Overall social media has a bad reputation but can be used for good as well, remember that.
